The Official name: República Oriental Del Uruguay(Oriental Republic of Uruguay). At early times of the colonialism it was Called “Banda Oriental” (oriental Band), then among the first years of the struggle for independence it was called “Povincia Oriental” (Oriental Province), as part of the “Provincias Unidas Del Rió de la Plata”(united Provinces of the River Plate). When the first Constitution of the country as independent nation was created, they added to the usually name of it the reference to the river Uruguay, which until then never was use to be mention before. With the pass of time this aggregation happened to be the habitual denomination of the country, between us “Uruguay “the word means in Guarani: “River of the painted birds” its inhabitants are Called Uruguayans or "orientales" who are highly educated and very friendly and diligent people. The population, with approximately 3.061.500, inhabitants, it is originally from Europe, especially Spanish and Italian origin, neither without detriment to other nationalities or races, product of an open doors immigration politics. Spanish is the official language (Castilian). The currency of Uruguay is the peso Uruguayan. However, Americans dollars will be accepted by almost every person or business. |
