sipping "mate" | Instructions on "How to prepare a great mate" : Fill in the gourd ¾ of the way with yerba mate. Cover the top and shake it upside-down. This is to force the smallest yerba particles (dust like) to the top of the mate; thus, it is less likely that the tiny holes of the straw will get clogged. Raise it slowly, add only a few sips of water, let it rest for about 2 minutes, place the straw in an inclined position. When drinking mate use hot not boiling water. Drink it till you finish the water and then fill it again for the next person and so on. The straw should stay put and you use the same yerba until you note it has lost its taste. Enjoy it at anytime anywhere, sip by sip! How about some homemade "biscochitos" (biscuits) to go with the tasty "matte", you can find them at the street vendors or at any corner store.
